FAQ: What is necessary to use Advance Steel under Autodesk Mechanical?

Note: The answer is referring to version 2015. This information may differ on other versions.

Even if AutoCAD Mechanical is not listed yet as an official platform on the Advance Steel website, Advance Steel does run in Autodesk Mechanical 2015 if you make additional settings.

Settings for Autodesk Mechanical

1. Install Autodesk Mechanical following the instructions and restart the system to complete the installation.
2. Start Autodesk Mechanical.
3. From the meniu, access the Options dialog box, Profile tab, and make the following settings:
   • select the <<vanilla>> profile and activate it.
   • Create a new profile named AS2015, save and activate it.

     

4. Change the workspace to 3D-Modeling.
5. On the command line, type menubar and change the system variable to 1.
6. Save the workspace and close Autodesk Mechanical.

Settings for Advance Steel

1. Install Advance Steel 2015.
2. Right click the Advance Steel Icon on the desktop and select Properties from the context menu.
3. For Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit change the target to "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2015\Steel\Bin\AdvanceSteelLauncher64.exe" /p "AS2015" /T "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2015\Shared\Support\Templates\ASTemplate.dwt".
