The Migrate Custom Settings dialog box simplifies the process of migrating custom settings and files from a previous release.
For more control over which custom settings, files, or parts of files are migrated, see the following:
- User Profiles. All user profiles in the previous release are migrated. If you do not want to migrate all user profiles, you will need to use the Profiles tab in the Options dialog box to export each profile from the previous release and import them into the current release. (User Profiles are not available in AutoCAD LT.)
Note: It is not recommended to import a profile that was exported from a different version of the product. For example, do not export a profile from AutoCAD Electrical and import it into the current AutoCAD release.
- Changes to the User Interface. The Migrate Custom Settings dialog box migrates the MNU, MNS, CUI, or CUIx files associated with the user profiles from the previous release. All custom user interface elements are migrated forward and merged as needed.
Note: Only menu or customization files that are part of a user profile or listed as a partial customization file in a CUI or CUIx file are migrated with the Migrate Custom settings dialog box. Any other menu or customization files are not migrated automatically.
If you want to control which user interface elements are migrated to the current release, use the Transfer tab of the Customize User Interface (CUI) Editor.
- Custom Files. The Migrate Custom Settings dialog box merges changes that were made to the linetype (LIN), hatch pattern (PAT), program parameter (PGP), and tool palette (ATC) files with the new files from the current release. If you do not want all the changes made to these files, you will need to edit each file individually using an ASCII text editor or the Tool Palettes window.
Note: LSP, DVB, ACTM, SCR, DLL, and ARX files are not migrated. These files need to be updated and migrated manually to the current release.
Caution: Do not manually copy tool palette (ATC) files from one release folder to another. This can cause problems when migrating tool palettes in the future.
- Tool Palettes and Tool Palette Groups. The Migrate Custom Settings dialog box can migrate both tool palettes and tool palette groups to the current release. Custom tool palettes and changes to tool palettes included with AutoCAD 2010-based products or later are merged with the tool palettes in the current release. If migrating from AutoCAD 2009-based products or earlier, only the user-created tool palettes are migrated; changes made to tool palettes included with the product must be redone.
If you do not want to migrate all tool palettes or tool palette groups from a previous release, you can manually import and export those you want in the current release using the Customize dialog box. In the release you are migrating from, display the Customize dialog box and selectively export the tool palettes and tool palette groups that you want to migrate to the current release. Then, in the current release of the product, use the Customize dialog box to import the tool palettes and tool palette groups that were exported.
