To Work With Item Numbers

To assign, fix, and resequence item numbers.

Assign an Item Number

  1. Edit the panel or schematic component.
  2. Type an item number in the Catalog Data section of the dialog box or click the Next>> button to have AutoCAD Electrical find the next available item number.
Note: If AutoCAD Electrical finds another component in the project with an item number assignment for the same catalog, it assigns this item number automatically.
  3. Check fixed to lock the item number so it will not update during a resequence.
Note: Item numbers on schematic components cannot be marked as fixed.
  4. If the project allows item numbers per-part number, and the component carries multiple catalog values, select Multiple Catalog to assign item numbers to each catalog value.
Note: If you assign an item number that does not match other components with the same catalog, you are instructed to run the Item Resequence command. Resequencing the item numbers will resolve any conflicts, making sure that components with the same catalog carry the same item number.

Fix Item Numbers Project-Wide

  1. Click Project tabProject Tools panelUtilities. Find
  2. Select from the options on the Item Numbers: Fix/Unfix drop-down list.
    • No Change - do not modify the status of any existing item numbers. This option is the default.
    • Set all to fixed - change all existing items numbers to fixed. If you run Resequence Items Numbers later on, fixed item numbers do not change.
    • Set all to normal - clear all fixed item numbers. If you run Resequence Items Numbers later on, normal item numbers update.
  3. Click OK.

The Select Drawings to Process dialog box displays.

  4. Select the drawings you want to process.
  5. Click OK.
Note: Item numbers on schematic components cannot be marked as fixed.

Resequence Item Numbers

  1. Click Panel tabEdit Footprints panelResequence Item Numbers. Find
  2. Specify the beginning number to use.
  3. If you want to assign item numbers only to components that do not already have one, check Process blank items only.
  4. Specify to process the data for the current drawing or the entire project. If you select Project, you are able to select which drawings from within the project. If you select Current Drawing only, AutoCAD Electrical does not check other drawings for existing item number assignments.
  5. If you want to process only the components with certain manufacturer values:
    • Uncheck Process all. The list displays containing all manufacturers used in the project.
    • Select which manufacturers to process using the Add and Remove buttons. Select a manufacturer or group of manufacturers and click Add or Remove.
    • Change the order of processing using the Move Up and Move Down buttons. Select a manufacturer or group of manufacturers and click Move Up or Move Down. The default order is alphabetical.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If Project is selected, select the drawings to process.

Resequence Item Number updates panel and schematic components in the following order:

  1. Panel components
  2. Schematic components with a panel representation, assigning the same item number as the related panel component
  3. Schematic components with no panel representation
Note: Fixed item numbers do not change.
