Controlling the 3D View

This page describes how to get around in the 3D view of the eRnsT interface.

Controlling the camera

eRnsT offers several modes of controlling the camera, described below.

Default controls

Using the default camera control mode involves simply clicking and dragging the mouse in the 3D view.

left-click and drag Moves the camera forward and backwards along the horizontal plane, and rotates the camera around the Up axis.
left-click and right-click and drag Moves the camera up and down the Up axis, and sideways orthogonal to the current facing direction.
right-click and drag Rotates the viewing orientation of the camera around its current position.

Keyboard control

You can also use the keyboard to move the camera around the scene.

W, S Moves the camera forward and backwards along its facing orientation.
A, D Moves the camera sideways orthogonal to its current facing direction.
E, Q Moves the camera up and down orthogonal to its current facing direction.

Maya controls

If you prefer the kind of camera navigation scheme offered by Autodesk Maya®, you can hold down the Alt key to enable the following controls:

Alt + left-click and drag Rotates the camera around a point of interest in the current facing direction.
Alt + middle-click and drag Moves the camera up, down and sideways in relation to a point of interest in the current facing direction.
Alt + right-click and drag Zooms the camera in and out in relation to a point of interest in the current facing direction.
