Calculate the amount by which rails are raised or lowered through a curve.

  1. Click an alignment in the drawing.
  2. Click Alignment tabModify panelCant drop-downCalculate/Edit Cant.
Note: When you use the Calculate/Edit Cant command on an alignment that contains no cant data, you are prompted to select from the following options:
    • Calculate Cant Now - Select this option to launch the Calculate Cant wizard and calculate cant for all alignment curves.
    • Open the Cant Curve Manager - Select this option to review the data for each of the alignment curves, and then click Cant Wizard to calculate cant for a specified selection of curves.
  3. In the Calculate Cant wizard, on the Railway Type page, specify a pivot method.
  4. Review the Track Width value.
Note: If the Track Width value is not appropriate for your application, click Cancel and then change the value in the Alignment Properties dialog box on the Rail Parameters tab.
  5. Click Next.
  6. On the Attainment Method Page page, specify the following parameters:
    • Equilibrium Cant
    • Maximum Allowable Cant Deficiency
    • Design Criteria File
    • Applied Cant Table
    • Transition Length Table
    • Attainment Method
    • Attainment Transition Variables
Note: The availability of the Attainment Transition Variables depends on the selected Attainment Method. Not all attainment methods use all the transition variables. For more information, see Examples of Cant Attainment Methods.
    • Automatically Resolve Overlap

If you select this option, all overlapping transition regions on the entire alignment are resolved automatically. This option is available only when cant is being calculated for all alignment curves. For more information, see About Resolving Overlapping Cant Curves.

  7. Click Finish.

The Cant Tabular Editor is displayed.
