How to Manage Floor and Grid Settings

The Floor/Grid Settings dialog box contains two groups of settings. The Floor Settings control the size and appearance of the floor. The Grid Settings control the spacing and appearance of the grid. The floor size settings control the overall grid size, even if the floor display is turned off.

Change floor settings

By default, the floor is specified as visible in a new factory layout. It is set to resize automatically once components are moved outside the default boundary. You can control the floor color and whether a border displays.

  1. On the ribbon, click Factory tab Options panel Floor/Grid Settings to display the Floor/Grid Settings dialog box.
  2. In the Floor Settings group, uncheck Visible to turn off the floor display. Select Auto Size to have the floor dynamically change size based on component placement, or User Defined to specify a fixed size for the floor.
Note: To change the minimum floor size for Auto Size, select User Defined and enter the floor dimensions, then select Auto Size again.
  3. Specify the Thickness of the solid floor that is created using the Create Solid Floor command. You can change the solid floor thickness in a factory floor layout at any time.
  4. In the Floor Style area, uncheck Floor Border to turn off the display. To change the Floor Color, click the drop-down arrow to display the color palette. You can select one of the basic colors or click Select Color… to display the Color dialog box, where you can define a custom color.

Change grid settings

  1. On the ribbon, click Factory tab Options panel Floor/Grid Settings to display the Floor/Grid Settings dialog box.
  2. In the Grid Settings group, uncheck Visible to turn off the grid display. You can individually control whether Major Grids, Minor Grids, XY Axes, and the Coordinate System Triad are displayed.

The Minor Grid Spacing controls the distance between grid lines. By default, every other grid line is displayed as a major grid line. You can enter an integer from 1 through 512 to change the frequency of the Major grid lines.

  3. In the Grid Style area, you can set the Major Grid Color and the Minor Grid Color. Click the drop-down arrow to display the color palette. You can select one of the basic colors or click Select Color… to display the Color dialog box, where you can define a custom color.

Make Default

After making changes to the floor settings, floor style, grid settings, or grid style, click the Make Default button to store your changes for all subsequent factory layout sessions.

Restore default floor/grid settings

You can still make changes to the floor and grid settings after clicking the Make Default button. If you want to return to the settings stored under Make Default, click the Restore Defaults button.

  1. On the ribbon, click Factory tab Options panel Floor/Grid Settings .
  2. In the Floor/Grid Settings dialog box, click Restore Defaults.
