Modifying Factory Options Defaults

The Factory Design Utilities have default values that you can tailor to your manufacturing process. Where applicable you can set the units to the work day, per hour, per minute, or per second. Where the Desired Production Rate is not set to per work day the results are normalized to minutes.

To access the Factory Options:

1. At the bottom of the Application menu , click Options.
2. In the Options dialog box, navigate to the Factory tab.
3. Click the appropriate button to edit the following settings:

Transportation Defaults

Define the types of transportation your processes use.

To define a new transportation type:

1. Below the Transportation Type list, click Add... .
2. Specify the Default Values for the new transportation type.
3. Click OK.

To modify transportation type defaults:

1. Select the transportation type.
2. Modify the Default Values.
3. Click OK.

Operation Defaults

Operations are the specific manufacturing processes used in producing your products. Default processes are provided and you can add new ones according to your process requirements.

To define a new operation type:

1. Below the Operation Type list, click Add... .
2. Specify the Default Values for the new operation type.
3. Click OK.

To modify operation type defaults:

1. Select the operation type.
2. Modify the Default Values.
3. Click OK.

Station Defaults

Stations are the locations where operations are performed. Specify the default values for all new stations according to your manufacturing stations. Modifications to the default values affect all subsequently created stations. The settings do not alter existing stations.

1. Modify the value and unit type for the given station properties.
2. Click OK.

Shift Defaults

1. Specify the number of shifts performed during the average manufacturing day.
2. Specify the number of hours in a given shift.
3. Click OK.

Job Defaults

1. Specify the default values and units of measure for jobs.
2. Specify Part Quantity. Part quantity represents the number of parts in a job.
3. Specify Batch Size. Batch Size represents how many jobs are in the batch.

For example, a job has a Part Quantity of 10. Production from each job is transported in a container. A forklift can carry 10 containers on a palette. The batch size is 100. 10 parts/job × 10 jobs = 100 total parts.
