To optimize a design road corridor (preview)

Use Corridor Optimization for InfraWorks 360 (Preview) to plan a design road’s optimal horizontal path based on parameters you define.

Note: To add a design road that has an optimized horizontal path, display the Corridor Optimization panel while you plan the road's rough path; the Corridor Optimization job then generates the design road. Corridor Optimization (preview) cannot be performed on roads that have already been added with the Design Roadways tools.

  1. Click to display the Corridor Optimization panel.
  2. Select a Design Speed.
  3. Select a default Structure Style for the job.
  4. Provide a Job Description.
Tip: A description unique to the optimization job makes it easier to differentiate between multiple optimization alternatives in the Job Monitor.
  5. Select an existing path from the Path list or select None to start a new one.

To rename a path, click the toggle button to expand the list of paths. Double click a name to edit it.

  6. Click to define new start and end waypoints and then click in the model to place the waypoints.

If you selected an existing path, you can drag the existing waypoints to relocate them. If you select Create intermediate waypoints, click in the model to place them.

  7. Under Advanced Settings, do any of the following:
    • Use Cost Zones to specify areas to be avoided.

For more information, see To import coverage areas.

    • Use Construction Rules to specify rules for when to use bridges and tunnels. This tab also lets you specify how your roadside cut slopes and fill slopes (cross-slopes) will be graded.
    • Use Construction & Earthwork Cost to set and review unit prices for earthwork and construction activities and materials.

The values you set will be used to calculate your optimization results. For more information, see the topic on construction and earthwork costs.

  8. Click Optimize It.
  9. The optimization job is processed in the order in which it is received. When the optimization job is complete, you will be notified by email; you can also see the status of the job in the Job Monitor.

Note: Corridor Optimization is in preview ahead of its anticipated release. If you try it during the preview, we may waive the cloud credit charge for your alignment optimization jobs and limit you to one job at a time.
