Embed or link a document as placement help in an iFeature.
Add document as placement help
- Click Open.
- Browse to the iFeature (.ide) file in which you want to embed a document, and then click Open.
- On the ribbon, click Tools tab Insert panel Insert Object .
- In the Insert Object dialog box, do one of the following:
- Click Create New to insert a new document, and then select the file type from the Object Type list.
- Click Create from File to insert an existing document, and then click Browse to locate the file. Optionally, click Link; if not, it is embedded.
- Click OK.
- In the browser, expand the 3rd Party icon. Right-click the document, and click Placement Help.
Note: When you select the Create New option and embed a document, its name is the same as the name of the iFeature, with the extension used by its application.
Add Web page as placement help
- In Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, drag the icon to the left of the URL (such as http://www.autodesk.com) onto your desktop or a Windows folder.
- Drag the shortcut onto an iFeature.
- In the browser, expand the 3rd Party icon, right-click the document, and then click Placement Help.
To avoid losing links to related files
- In Microsoft Internet Explorer, click FileOpen and browse to the HTML file, and then click OK.
- Click FileSave As.
- On the Save as Type drop-down list, click Web Archive for E-mail (*.mht).
- Click Save to embed the resulting .mht file in the iFeature.
Replace Web page
- In the browser, expand the 3rd Party icon and delete the Web page icon.
- Drag a new shortcut to the graphics window. Editing the link text does not change the URL.
Use placement help when inserting iFeature
- Open the part file to which you want to add an iFeature.
- On the ribbon, click Manage tab Insert panel Insert iFeature .
- Browse to a folder, and double-click an iFeature to select it.
- In the Insert iFeature dialog box, click Information to open the placement help document in its original application.
- Follow the instructions in the document to place the iFeature.
