Place a decal on a model face.
If you create the decal on a part instead of a surface, use Delete Face on the 3D Model tab and remove unneeded faces. The part is automatically converted to a surface.
- Create a part file. On the default sketch, create a line, then click Return. Click 3D Model tab Create panel Extrude and extrude the line as a surface.
Note: Ensure that you create the extrusion the exact size of the decal image. If necessary, edit the sketch and resize the line, and then edit the feature to modify the extrusion distance.
- On the ribbon, click 3D Model tab Sketch panel Create 2D Sketch and then select the extrusion face.
- On the ribbon, Sketch tab Insert panel , click Image . Browse to locate a .bmp, .doc, or .xls file to represent the decal, and then click OK.
- In the graphics window, click to place the image, and then right-click and click Done.
If desired, right-click the image in the graphics window. If necessary, use options in the Image Properties dialog box to reorient the image. To create a transparent background for the decal, click Use Mask.
- Use dimension and constraint commands to position the image, and then right-click and select Done. Right-click again and select Finish Sketch.
- On the ribbon, click 3D Model tab Create panel Decal. Set the following:
- Image Select the decal image. Resize if necessary, although the image retains its original
aspect ratio

- Face Select the face on which to apply the decal.
- Wrap to Face Conform the decal to a curved face, or clear the checkbox to project the decal image instead of wrapping.
- Chain Faces Place decal across adjacent faces, such as a fillet or over an edge.
- When the decal is applied as desired, click OK.
Note: The decal image distorts when projected on an irregular surface or adjacent faces. The faces move closer to being perpendicular, the amount of distortion increases because the image is projected.
