Marking Menu

A marking menu is an interaction technique that provides a radial menu of items for selection. You can perform a selection using one of two basic ways (or modes) - menu mode or mark mode.

Menu mode Right-click in the graphics window. A radial menu displays, centered on the current cursor position. Menu items are arranged in a circle surrounding the cursor. Each item, or node, is associated with a certain sector of the circle. Each node displays the command name and corresponding command icon. To select a menu item, move the mouse into its sector. The selected item highlights. Click it to confirm the selection.

Note: To navigate the marking menu selections, use the UP and DOWN keys on your keyboard.

To dismiss the marking menu, click in the center of the radial menu. Do not press Esc, which can cancel a command in progress.

Mark mode, also called gesture behavior. Draw a mark. To draw the mark, right-click and hold, and immediately move in the direction of a menu item. The cursor marks a trail. When you release the cursor, it selects the menu item that corresponds to the direction of movement.

As with context menus, the marking menu contains commands specific to the current task. For example, when a presentation is playing, the marking menu provides player controls including Pause Presentation, Play from Beginning, Exit Presentation.
