To Filter Point Cloud Data

You can filter point clouds by point classification, elevation, LiDAR intensity, and location on your map. You can also create a new point cloud data store from your filtered point cloud data.

To filter point cloud data

  1. In the Display Manager, right-click a point cloud layer and select Filter Point Cloud.
  2. In the Filter Point Cloud Dialog Box, in the Filter By drop-down box, select one of the following filters:
    • Classification
    • Elevation
    • Intensity
    • Spatial
  3. Click Apply Filter.

    The filtered points are displayed in your map.

To create a new point cloud data store from filtered point cloud data

  1. In the Display Manager, right-click the filtered point cloud layer from which you want to create a new point cloud data store, then select DataAdd Point Cloud DataCreate New Index.

    The Point Cloud Manager appears with a row for your new point cloud data store highlighted, and with the filter type displayed in the Filter field.

  2. In the Point Cloud Manager, select a file name and save location for your new point cloud data store, then click Generate Index.

    AutoCAD Map 3D begins to create the index file.

  3. To cancel the indexing process, click Cancel Processing.
  4. When AutoCAD Map 3D is done creating the index file, a green check mark appears next to the file or merge group name.
  5. To add the point cloud to your map, click Add to Map.

    AutoCAD Map 3D adds the point cloud drawing object to your map, and adds a point cloud layer to the Display Manager.

To remove a filter from your point cloud data

  1. In the Display Manager, right-click a point cloud layer and select Filter Point Cloud.
  2. In the Filter Point Cloud Dialog Box, in the Filter By drop-down box, select the filter type you want to remove.
  3. Click Clear Filter.
