Use Symbols for Points

In this exercise, you replace a point style with a symbol from a symbol library.

Note: The following exercise uses the standard layer style to configure styles in the Layer Editor. Also available is the enhanced layer style, which supports compound symbols and composite styles. To change the layer style, click Tools menu Options Layer Editor tab. Under Layer Style, select Standard for this exercise. See the Studio User's Guide for instructions on using enhanced styles.
  Detailed steps
  1. In the Site Explorer, double-click the treepoints layer to open it. Click refresh to see the preview.
  2. Under Zoom To A Scale Range, click 0-10000 to zoom the Layer Preview window so that the points are visible.
  3. At the top of the Layer Editor, click Style to bring the Style panel to the top.
  1. In the Layer Editor, for Style Of The Geometry, click [...].
  2. In the Style dialog box, for Symbol, Select Symbol Library.
  3. Navigate to the Trees Symbol Library.
  4. Select tree3 and click OK.
  5. In the Style Point dialog box, for Width and Height enter 0.3 and click OK.
  1. In the Layer Preview panel, click Refresh.
  2. Save the layer resource.
  3. View the updated layer in the map.
