About Network Licensing and Server Models

An introductory overview.

Autodesk uses Network License Manager (NLM) running on one or more servers to control the distribution of product access on a network. The license servers can be a mixture of Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux servers in any combination. Three license server models are possible: single server, distributed server, or redundant server. When you purchase a network license, you specify which server model you will use. To help you decide which one best suits your needs, separate topics discuss advantages and disadvantages of each model.
