Use a Search command to build a search tool for your users.
To create a search command
- Follow steps 1 - 4 in Creating New Advanced Commands.
- Click the Additional Parameters tab.
- For Display This Prompt For Users To Enter A Search Term, specify the prompt to display to your users.
- For Search This Layer, specify the layer to which the search applies.
- For Pass The Search Term Into This Filter, click […] and define a filter to select a subset of features.

- For Use These Columns To Display The Results Returned By This Search Command, click Add and do the following:
- Enter a title for the column.
- Select the property to display in the column.
- Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to adjust the order of the columns in the results table.
- Specify a maximum number of results under To Return A List Of Results No Larger Than.
- For Display Results In This Target Interface, click either Task Pane, New Window, or Specified Frame.
If you select Specify Frame, enter the frame name.
