Configuring a Connection to an External DWG File

When publishing DWG files from Infrastructure Studioto Infrastructure Map Server, you can create an external reference to one or more of the files, rather than loading the files to Infrastructure Map Server. This can be especially helpful if the files are very large. This requires that the DWG files reside on a shared server. Accessing the files and maintaining the external reference require an active connection to the remote network.

When you set an external reference for a DWG file, only the map definitions, layer definitions, and feature sources are loaded to Infrastructure Map Server. The DWG file itself is not loaded, but resides on a remote server and is maintained as an external reference. You can choose this option for one or more of the files being published.

Note: The external reference option relies on an active connection to the remote network where the DWG files are stored. This connection can change at any time, and can affect whether Infrastructure Studiocan access the DWG after publishing is complete. You may encounter network connection issues to the externally referenced DWG. This issue cannot be managed via Infrastructure Map Server.

To configure an external reference to a DWG file

• In the Publish to Infrastructure Map Server dialog box, in the file list, click to toggle on the External Reference button for the DWG file you want to conenct.
• You can use CTRL-click to select multiple files in the file list. Then, toggle on the External Reference button in the toolbar to set all selected files as an external reference.
