When you have one type of component selected you can automatically select a corresponding component of a different type. For example, you can select a face and then use the Select > Convert Selection > To Edges command to select the edges around the face.
The Convert Selection menu items do not change or convert the actual geometry. They only change which components are selected.
You can convert a selection using the following commands in the Select > Convert Selection menu:
- Select > Convert Selection > To Vertices
- Select > Convert Selection > To Vertex Faces

- Select > Convert Selection > To UVs
- Select > Convert Selection > To UV Shell
