The Global Merge tool can be used to eliminate unused node labels, and renumber the nodes and elements sequentially, without altering the mesh. Eliminating unused labels and renumbering entities sequentially, is called 'squeezing' and will save on computer memory and analysis time, once it has been accomplished.

. - In the Global Merge dialog, ensure that the Squeeze entity labels option is checked. If you would like to squeeze the entity labels without changing the mesh, make sure that the other options in the dialog are deselected. These options are selected by default.
- Click Apply. Unused node labels will be eliminated and nodes will be numbered sequentially.
