Using restart files to extend an analysis

You can use restart files to run subsequent analyses in a sequence, without re-running previous analyses in the sequence, providing there are no changes that invalidate the earlier analyses.

This is useful when you want to extend the analysis sequence for a second analysis. For example, you can extend a Fill+Pack analysis to Fill+Pack + Warp.

The example below extends a Fill analysis to a Fill+Pack analysis .

  1. Open the study which contains the analysis sequence you want to extend.
  2. Double-click Fill in the Study Tasks pane.
  3. On the Set Analysis Sequence dialog, select Fill+Pack to extend the analysis sequence. If prompted, choose to Delete results associated with the study.
  4. Click Process Settings in the Study Tasks pane.
  5. Enter the required Pack analysis inputs using the Process Settings Wizard.
Note: Do not change the mold surface temperature, melt temperature, filling control or velocity/pressure switch-over settings. If these are changed the restart files are invalidated and the entire analysis sequence must be run again.
  6. Click Start Analysis! in the Study Tasks pane.
The extended analysis is run using the restart files saved during the Fill analysis.
Note: Restart files are not produced by Coupled 3D Flow solver. Each 3D analysis sequence that uses the Coupled 3D Flow solver will run from the beginning and ignore any previously generated results.
