The Part Surface Properties tab of this dialog is used to specify the part surface properties of the selected elements or regions of type Part surface (Midplane) on a Midplane model.
The collection of property values defined on the dialog are saved to a property set with the description shown in the Name box. In addition, you may be given the option to also apply the property values to related entities in the model.
Dialog elements
- Cross-sectional shape
- Select the type of cross-sectional shape you want to apply to the selected element(s).
- Thickness
- Specifies how the thickness of the selected element(s) in the Dual Domain mesh is to be determined.
The following options are available:
- Auto-determine
- The analysis establishes the thickness of the element by measuring the gap between the two adjacent Dual Domain mesh skins.
- Specify
- The analysis uses the specified thickness. This allows you to vary the thickness values for a Dual Domain mesh without having to modify the part in your CAD system and then re-import and mesh the part.
- Dual Domain type
- Specifies how the Dual Domain mesh match classification for the selected element(s) in the Dual Domain mesh is to be determined.
- Auto-determine
- If this option is selected, the solver automatically classifies the element as "matched", "edge" or "unmatched".
- Specified
- Select this option to manually assign a mesh match classification of "edge" or "unmatched" in cases where the automatic classification gives the wrong result, as shown in the Dual Domain Mesh Match diagnostic plot.
- Local heat transfer coefficients
- Specifies the heat transfer effectiveness (HTE) criteria to be applied to the selected tetrahedral elements.
- Use global setting in advanced options
- Use this option if you want to use the thermal properties specified in the Advanced options of the Process Settings Wizard.
Note: To view the global settings,
- Click
.
- Click Advanced options.
- In the Solver parameters group, click Edit.
- Select the Mesh tab.
- Perfect contact
- When selected there is no heat resistance between the part and the mold surface. When this option is selected the wall nodes are a fixed thermal boundary for analysis purposes.
- Local heat transfer coefficients
- Allows you to specify the heat transfer coefficients for the selected tetrahedral elements. Click Set to adjust or view the Heat Transfer Coefficients for the selected tetrahedra.
Note: When assigning the heat transfer coefficient to an in-mold label, it is the ratio of thermal conductivity of label to the thickness of the label.
- Exclude from clamp force calculation
- Select this option if you want to exclude the selected part surface elements from the clamp force calculation.
Note: This is useful if a model contains undercuts or will be utilizing slides, as the projected area calculation may be over-predicted. The analysis log will show a double projection of surfaces to the parting plane for these regions. This is due to the way that the projected area of the mesh to the X-Y plane in both Dual Domain and Midplane models is calculated. This over-prediction will cause the clamp force calculation to be overestimated.
- Exclude from warpage calculation
- Select this option if you want to exclude the selected part surface elements from the warpage calculation.
