Process Settings Wizard dialog-Microcellular Injection Molding Settings

Note: The Microcellular molding analysis is not supported for 3D analysis technology.

This page of the Process Settings Wizard, which can be accessed by clicking Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings), is used to specify Microcellular injection molding related process settings for the analysis sequence.

Note: Some of the items listed below may not be available on the current dialog. This is dependent on the mesh type, molding process and analysis sequence selected.

General settings

Volume filled at start of foaming Specifies the percentage volume of the cavity to be filled with polymer. For example, for a 10% reduction in weight of the part, enter 90%.
Initial bubble radius Specifies the bubble radius before growth. The default value can be used in most cases.
Note: Making this value too small may adversely affect solution stability.
Number of cells per volume Specifies a nucleation density value. The nucleation density, which can be determined from scanning electron microscope images of a molded part, is assumed to be constant throughout the part. The default value was determined from a test plaque molded with Polystyrene.
Tip: If the simulation predicts a short shot, whereas in practice the part fills completely, a possible reason is that the number of cells per volume value is too low.
Initial gas concentration Specifies the percentage concentration of gas in the melt at the beginning of the process.
