Setting restart steps

Restart files are used to safeguard against system failure by providing a snapshot of the simulation at the time of writing. You can configure the number of restart steps that are saved when you run a Midplane or Dual Domain Fill+Pack analysis.

Note: You need to set restart points before you launch the analysis.
  1. Click Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings) to open the Process Settings Wizard dialog.
  2. Click Advanced options to open the Fill + Pack Analysis Advanced Options dialog.
  3. Click Edit in the Solver parameters pane to open the Thermoplastics injection molding solver parameters dialog.
  4. Select the Restart tab. Enter the number of restart steps required.
Note: The number of restart steps defines the number of intervals between each recording of the restart file. For example, if the number of restart steps is set to 5, the restart file is saved at 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the calculation process.

To restart an analysis, reopen the project containing the failed analysis and re-launch the analysis.

The analysis continues from the last valid data set.

Tip: You can also use this restart ability to extend analyses.
Note: Restart files are not produced by Coupled 3D Flow solver. Each 3D analysis sequence that uses the Coupled 3D Flow solver will run from the beginning and ignore any previously generated results.
