The Global Merge Tool has been updated to provide a number of new features that will help you create a quality mesh.
- Merge overlapped nodes
- Merged nodes will adversely affect the quality of the mesh. You can improve the mesh quality by removing overlapping nodes with the Merge overlapped nodes option, which is turned on by default. Define the minimum distance between nodes using the Merge tolerance entry.
- Remove duplicated beams and triangles
- This option is selected by default and is offered primarily to address models that have been meshed in older versions of the software, and then imported.
- Resolve sharp triangles
- The aspect ratio plays an important role in the quality of the mesh. Very high aspect ratios should be avoided, especially when the longest side is in the direction of the flow, as this can affect localized results. Select this option to resolve sharp triangles (aspect ratio > 1000:1), automatically, and thereby improve the quality of the mesh. This option is selected by default.
- Squeeze entity labels
- If you have unused node labels, you can eliminate them with the Squeeze entity labels option, which is turned on by default. When the unused nodes labels have been eliminated, remaining nodes and elements are then renumbered sequentially, without altering the mesh. This process is known as 'Squeezing' and will save on computer memory and analysis time, once it has been completed.
