Flow front speed at center result

The Flow front speed at center result represents the fill velocity when the flow front reaches a specific point in the center of the plastic cross-section.

This result is generated from either a Fill or Flow analysis using Midplane or Dual Domain analysis technologies. This result is available for all thermoplastic injection molding processes, including overmolding, gas, co-injection, bi-injection, and injection compression molding.

Using this result

Variation in the flow velocity across the mold surface is highlighted by the Flow front speed at center result. This result highlights areas of hesitation. The variation in flow front speed can also impact on the visual quality of the finished part.

A part ideally has uniform flow front speed, especially in areas of a part where high visual quality is important.

Things to look for

  • Areas of low flow front speed might indicate hesitation.
  • Uneven flow front speed in a section of a part where visual quality is important can result in an uneven finish.
