Repairing mesh orientation automatically

Mesh orientation is important for results accuracy, especially if you run a Cool analysis or run different mold temperatures (top vs bottom) in a filling and packing analysis. Bad mesh orientation on Dual Domain models could cause the reported volume of the part to be wrong.

  1. Click Orient All (Mesh tab > Mesh Repair panel > Orient All) to run the automatic mesh orientation command. This command only works for Dual Domain models. You must make sure that there are no mesh defects, such as free edges, non-manifold edges or overlapping elements before running this command. After running the command, if there are remaining orientation problems, you should manually orient elements as described below.
  2. Click Orientation Diagnostic (Mesh tab > Mesh Diagnostics panel > Orientation) and then click Show to display the Mesh Orientation Diagnostic .
  3. Check whether the orientation of the various features in your model is correct. The requirements for correct orientation depend on the type of mesh, Midplane or Dual Domain, and the aspect of the model, for example, part elements, insert elements.

There may be individual elements or areas that are not oriented correctly. These will need to be adjusted manually.
