Preconditioning data dialog

This dialog is used to specify the data that will be taken into account for the calculation of the temperature of the molten plastic, or melt, as it starts to flow into the cavity.

To access this dialog, ensure that you have selected one of the Reactive Molding processes and an analysis sequence that includes Fill+Pack, click Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings), then click Edit Data... in the Preconditioning analysis section of the dialog.

Dialog elements

Pellet diameter
Specifies the diameter of the encapsulation molding compound pellet.
Pellet length
Specifies the length of the encapsulation molding compound pellet.
Transfer pot temperature
Specifies the transfer pot temperature.

Typically, the temperature of the pot wall is higher than that of the molding compound, so the molding compound is being heated during this delay time. This temperature value, along with the delay time, is taken into account in the reaction kinetics calculation.

Delay time in the pot
Specifies the amount of time the molding compound is kept in the pot before it is injected into the cavity.

This delay time is taken into account in the reaction kinetics calculation. Typically, the temperature of the pot wall is higher than that of the molding compound, so the molding compound is being heated during this delay time.

Tip: If you do not have appropriate data for a pre-conditioning analysis, you can set this value to zero. The preconditioning analysis will be omitted, with only a slight loss in accuracy.
Stop flow calculation when pellet volume is smaller than filled volume
Specify if the flow calculation should be stopped if the pellet volume is smaller than the filled volume.
