** ERROR 313163 ** Heater with thermocouple heating control does not support the flow solver in "Transient within cycle" option.

Explanation

"Transient within cycle" assumes that after a few cycles the mold reaches steady state conditions and the temperature variation in the mold, from this point onwards, will be the same. If subsequent cycles exhibit different behavior, then Transient within cycle is no longer a valid option.

When using a thermocouple to control the temperature of the mold, in most cases the mold will never reach steady state conditions because the thermocouple usually turns on a heater at one trigger temperature and turns it off again at a different, higher, trigger temperature. This on and off temperature cycle may occur in a single molding cycle or more likely will occur over several cycles, so that there may be several molding cycles with the heater off, and several others with the heater on. In this instance several cycles may repeat each other during the process, a band of say 7 or perhaps 10 cycles may exhibit exact repetitive behavior. "Averaged within cycle" is only applicable if all subsequent cycles exhibit the same behavior.

Resolution

If you have a heater with thermocouple control, you should run the Transient from production startup analysis, set the number of iterations to run, and study the temperature behavior over multiple cycles.
