Process Settings Wizard dialog-Gate Location Settings

This page of the Process Settings Wizard, which can be accessed by clicking Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings), is used to specify the gate location algorithm and related process settings, used by the Gate Location analysis.

Note: Some of the items listed below may not be available on the current dialog. This is dependent on the analysis technology, molding process and analysis sequence selected.

General settings

Injection molding machine Select and edit an injection molding machine to simulate your molding machine during the analysis. You can configure the injection unit, hydraulic unit, and clamping unit.

Click Select to select a molding machine from the database. Click Edit to make any changes to the selected molding machine.

Mold surface temperature

The temperature of the mold at the plastic-metal interface, where the plastic touches the mold. The temperature of the mold affects the cooling rate of the plastic. In cases where this is an input box, enter the required mold temperature. The mold temperature cannot be higher than the ejection temperature.

Melt temperature The temperature of the molten plastic, or melt, as it starts to flow into the cavity.

If the model has a runner system, the melt temperature refers to the temperature of the melt as it enters the runner system. If the model does not have a runner system, the melt temperature is the temperature of the melt as it exits the gate(s). The melt temperature cannot be lower than the Transition temperature.

In cases where this is an input box, enter the required melt temperature.

Gate locator algorithm

You can select the algorithm that your Gate location analysis uses to find the best gate locations.

Gate Region Locator Gate locator algorithm group

Uses the part geometry, flow resistance, thickness and molding feasibility when analyzing the regions that have the best gate locations for the first gate. Best additional gate locations are found in subsequent analyses by balancing the flow, so that areas filled from each gate will fill at the same time.

Advanced Gate Locator Gate locator algorithm group

Minimizes the flow resistance (pressure) when determining the best areas for the gates. You can use this algorithm to place multiple gates with one analysis.

Number of gates Gate locator algorithm group

Allows you to specify the number of gates that the Gate Location analysis will place on a new copy of your model, using the Advanced Gate Locator algorithm to minimize flow resistance. You must select the Advanced Gate Locator as the Gate locator algorithm, on the Gate Location Settings page of the Process Settings Wizard. Then enter the number of gates you require in the text box, from 1 to 10 gates. To view the Gating suitability result, you must enter only 1 gate.
