Setting up a Multiple-barrel Reactive Molding analysis

The Multiple-Barrel Reactive Molding (RIM-MBI) analysis allows you to simulate a maximum of ten independent injection cylinders for a Reactive Molding analysis on a Midplane model.

To set the multiple injection barrel location, you need to first set a regular injection location. The following topic described how to set the multiple injection barrel location and perform the analysis.

Note: All plots should have the same mode of ram speed or pressure profile. For example, if one plot uses time vs. stroke profile, then all plots should have time vs. stroke profile.
  1. Ensure that you have done the following first:
    • Meshed and checked your part model,
    • Set the molding process to Multiple-Barrel Reactive Molding,
    • Selected the analysis sequence (Fill+Pack ),
    • Performed required analysis setup tasks,
    • Selected a thermoset material.
  2. Click Injection Location (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Injection Location), or, double-click the injection location icon in the Study Tasks pane, and set the injection location on the model. Right-click and select Finish Set Injection Locations when you are done.
  3. Click New in the Layers pane, and create a new layer called Entrance. Select the injection location symbol on the model and click Assign in the Layers pane to assign the injection location(s) to the layer. Then, de-select the Entrance layer so that the injection location cone is not visible.
  4. Select Set Locations (Boundary Conditions tab > Multiple Barrel panel > Set Locations) and define the MIB Injection Location to the same point as the Injection Location. Right-click the mouse and select Finish when you are done.
  5. Define a layer called MIB Entrance and assign the MIB Injection Location to this layer as in step 3.
  6. Click Make Active and activate the MIB Entrance layer so that the MIB Injection Location symbol is visible.
  7. Right-click the MIB Injection Location symbol, select Properties, and edit the Multiple barrel Reactive Molding controller properties as required, and click OK.
  8. Double-click Process Settings in the Study Tasks pane and specify the analysis settings. The process settings will apply to all injection locations.
  9. Click (Home tab > Analysis panel > Analyze in Cloud) to run the analysis.
