Process Settings Wizard dialog-Profile Settings

This page of the Process Settings Wizard, which can be accessed by clicking Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings), is used to specify the filling profile related process settings for the selected thermoset molding analysis sequence.

Note: Some of the items listed below may not be available on the current dialog. This is dependent on the mesh type, molding process and analysis sequence selected.
%Ram speed vs %stroke This table is used to specify the stroke volume for a ram speed profile based on %Stroke vs % Ram speed.
Velocity/pressure switch-over by whichever comes first
By %volume filled at
Specify the percentage of volume filled value at which the switch-over point from velocity control to pressure control should occur.
By injection pressure at
Specify the injection pressure value at which the switch-over point from velocity control to pressure control should occur.
By pressure control point
Specify the switch-over point by selecting a pressure control point inside the cavity. Once the specified pressure is reached at the selected node, the program will change from velocity to pressure control, and the pressure profile will be applied.

Enter the node number and pressure to specify the pressure control point.

General settings

Melt initial conversion To specify the level of conversion, enter a value between -1 and 1 where:
  • -1 = beginning of induction period (where relevant).
  • 0 = the beginning of conversion.
  • 1 = end of conversion.
Curing time The time taken for the thermoset material to become sufficiently cross-linked from heating to form a solid and freeze.
%Air mass The percentage air mass value is used to simulate the effect of air in the molding compound on the polymer flow. In most cases, it can be set to 0 (zero). If this value is not zero, it will have an effect on the compressibility of the compound.
Ambient temperature The ambient temperature should be set to the average ambient temperature at the site where the injection molding occurs. The default value for ambient temperature is 25°C (77°F).
Preconditioning analysis Specify whether a preconditioning analysis should be performed. Preconditioning data are used to calculate the melt temperature.
