Administrators can lock location options for users on a network using the standalone Options Editor. Locking prevents users from editing global location options on a local machine.
- Click Start and in the search bar type Options Editor.
- In the search results, right click Options Editor Run as Administrator.
- In Options Editor, click General Locations.
- In Project Directory, click Browse.
- Browse to the location of your Project Directory, or create a new folder on your shared network called Project Directory, and create another folder within it called global_options.
Note: If you are locking global options for a deployment, ensure you browse to the Project Directory
global_options folder you specified in the installer.
- In Site Directory, click Browse.
- Browse to the location of your Site Directory, or create a new folder on your shared network called Site Directory, and create another folder within it called global_options.

- In Options Editor, modify the global options you want to share, and click the padlock beside the options you want to lock. Notice it displays in the locked position .
- Click Export.
- In the Select options to export dialog, check the options you just locked.
- Save the xml file to the Project Directory global_options folder you specified above.
- Repeat steps 8-10 and save the xml file to the Site Directory global_options folder you specified above.
Note: When you restart Navisworks on a machine on your network, the global options for each user should be locked. To confirm the lock is in place, for each machine on the network:
- Open Navisworks and click the application button Options.
- In Options Editor, click General Locations. Notice that the Project Directory and Site Directory are greyed out and locked .
