Creation of Joist Girders

The VULCRAFT (VLCFT) database of Joist girders has been added to the section databases. The Standard Steel Joist Institute database (SJI) has been supplemented with Joist Girders.

Joist girders are primary framing members mostly used in North America.

From a design perspective, a joist girder is a simple span, supporting equally spaced concentrated loads from open-web steel joists.

To set up a Joist Girder, open the new section dialog, and then select Joist/Joist Girder as the section type.

See Create Joists or Joist Girders.

Cut by Plane feature

The Cut by Plane feature can be used to edit or cut objects such as bars or contours along a defined plan. This can be useful when working with sloped roofs for example.

Depending on the option selected, this feature can:
  • Divide contour edges for objects which include a contour such as walls,
  • Create nodes at intersections for bars and contour edges,
  • Split objects ,
  • Cut off objects on a specific side of the cutting plane.

To access the Cut by plane tool, click Edit > Cut by plane.

Note : The Cut by Plane tool is available for 3D structure types only, including buildings, shells, and 3D-frames. It will not work with solids, and objects created with the Extrude, or Revolve commands.

See Cut Objects by Plane.
