Major changes in the Steel Modules

New Russian Standard SP 16.13330.2011 for Steel Member Design

A new code for steel structures design is available in Russia Since May 20, 2011. This new steel code is available in Robot under the name SP 16.13330.2011. The previous code - SNIP II-23-81 may still be used independently.

The new code uses slightly different values of the steel grade resistance compared to the previous code. In order to be consistent with this new code, the new values are displayed for the Russian steels in the Job Preferences dialog.

However, the grades that are used for design use the resistance set by the selected code.

See Member Definition - Parameters for SP 16.13330.2011.

New American Standard ANSI/AISC 360-10 for Steel Member Design

The new instance of the American standard ANSI/AISC 360-10 has been implemented.

Note: The former standard ANSI/AISC 360-05 remains available in the Job Preferences, which enables the use of either code independently. Besides, past projects that were defined with the former code can still be used.

See Member Definition - Parameters for ANSI/AISC 360-10.

New French National Annex NF EN 1993-1-1/NA:2013 for Steel Member Design

The new instance of the French National Annex to Eurocode 3 NF EN 1993-1-1:NA:2013 has been created.

Note: The former standard Annex NF EN 1993-1-1:NA:2010 remains available in the Job Preferences, which enables the use of either code independently. Besides, past projects that were defined with the former code can still be used.

See Member Definition - Parameters (EC3).

Steel design using DAM for models analyzed by "DAM approach"

The Steel Design module automatically recognizes and uses results generated by a DAM analysis.

With the DAM approach, the ULS and SLS are verified as follows:
  • The ULS verification is performed using the ULS combinations created with the DAM model.
  • The SLS verification is performed using the SLS combinations created with the Main model.

See Run a Steel Design Verification with DAM

New SPLICE connection according to EN 1993-1-8 and PN90-B/3200

The new splice connection has been implemented. This enables connecting two collinear elements made of double-I, rectangle and rectangle tube sections.

Different sides of connection are available:
  • Right and left for Beam Splice,
  • Lower and upper for the Column Splice.

Web plates can be set on one or both sides of the connection.

Plates can be connected with bolts or welds, placed on the external or internal side of the flanges.

This new steel connection is available for the Eurocode EN 1993-1-8 and Polish code PN90-B/3200.
