Structure Analysis

STRUCTURE DEFINITION

Update of the AISC shapes database v. 14.0.

The AISC steel section database has been updated and several improvements have been made to accommodate the changes introduced by the 14th edition of the AISC Steel Construction Manual.

With this update, the following section shapes are now available:

  • W-, M-, S-, and HP-shapes.
  • Channels (C- and MC-shapes).
  • Angles (L- and 2L-shapes).
  • Tees (WT-, ST-, and MT-shapes).
  • Hollow structural sections (HSS).
  • Pipes (P, PX and PXX).
Note: The AISC section database should be available from the list of section database in the Declaring Section Database dialog (Tools > Job Preferences > Databases > Steel and timber sections > ).
If the AISC section database is not available from the list, follow the instructions below.
  1. Click Browse.
  2. Navigate to C:/ProgramData/Autodesk/Structural/Common Data/2014/Data/Prof.
  3. Select Aiscpro.xml, and then click Open.
  4. Click OK twice.

The AISC section database appears in the list of Steel and timber sections.

ACTIONS

Load categories and load combination rules according to the French National Annex to Eurocode 1 NF EN 1990/NA Décembre 2011

New categories of live loads pertaining to the French National Annex to Eurocode 1 (NF EN 1990/NA Décembre 2011) have been added. Subcategories E1, E2-a, E2-b, E2-c, K-helicopters and K-others are now available with appropriate factors value.

These new categories are available from the Configuration of Code list dialog (Tools > Job Preferences > Design codes > Loads > More codes...).

It is also possible to use the Automatic Combinations dialog (Loads > Automatic Combinations) to automatically generate load combinations according to these new categories.

Load types and load combinations according to the Russian code SP 20.13330.2011.

The combination definition for the Russian code SP 20.13330.2011 has been completed, and is now available from the Configuration of Code list dialog (Tools > Job Preferences > Design codes > Loads > More codes...).

With this update, it is now possible to use the Automatic Combinations dialog (Loads > Automatic Combinations) to automatically generate load combinations according to the SP 20.13330.2011 code.

ANALYSIS

Seismic analysis according to the updated IBC 2012 code.

The Seismic Analysis has been extended with the latest International Building Code (IBC 2012).

As a result of this modification, the seismic analysis using the response spectrum method can be run according to the IBC 2009 code, as well as according to IBC 2012 code.

For a seismic analysis using the equivalent lateral force method however, only the latest version of the IBC code will be used (ASCE 7-10 / IBC 2012).

Seismic analysis according to the National Building Code of Canada 2010 by equivalent lateral forces

The seismic analysis according to the Canadian national code NBCC 2010 has been extended with a static seismic method. Equivalent lateral forces may be now generated according to the defined parameters.

The Canadian national code NBC 2010 - Parameters can be displayed in either of the following ways:
  • By clicking Parameters in the Analysis Types dialog when a seismic analysis has been selected.
  • By clicking Seismic Analysis Parameters in the Seismic Analysis dialog when a new seismic analysis has been created.

IMPROVEMENTS AND UI CHANGES

Notional loads dialog update

In past releases, only one notional load could be defined for each direction. With Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 it is now possible to define several notional load cases for each direction.

The Notional Loads dialog has been redesigned to improve the visualization of existing load cases, and allow them to be edited.

Notional loads can be generated from simple load cases as well as from load combinations.

Calculation dialog enhancements

The Calculations dialog has been modified in order to display all the messages that are produced during the generation and verification of the calculation model, as well as analysis messages.

Calculation messages are sorted chronologically, and time stamps are displayed for major steps, such as the start or end of the analysis. If instabilities are found, they are grouped by type and direction.

Calculation Messages dialog

The Calculation Messages dialog shows messages that were reported during calculations, and opens automatically at the end of the analysis process. This dialog can now also be opened at any time by clicking Analysis > Calculation Messages.

Click the line associated with a message to highlight the related objects in the structure model.

Note: If instabilities are detected for nodes, these nodes are grouped by direction and by type of instability under the same message.

Verification dialog enhancements

The verification dialog has been updated with the following features:
  • A stop button has been added, which allows you to abort the verification process at any moment.
  • The verification process has been enhanced with a procedure that checks the validity of a computational model.
  • The size of the verification dialog has been increased to allow a better visualization of messages.

Brazilian Portuguese working language

Brazilian Portuguese was added as working language. It becomes the default working language when either Portugal or Brasil is selected in the regional settings.

Working with 2 monitors

It is now possible to run the program while working with 2 monitors, making use of both of them in an intuitive and convenient way. The program tries to re-open on the same monitor as the one on which it was lastly used. Dialogs, toolbars, and layouts are opened on the same monitor as the application, and layouts are scaled to the resolution of this monitor.

Model thumbnails in Windows Explorer window

Once Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2015 has been installed, thumbnails are automatically created for *.RTD files. This allows you to use Windows Explorer to preview a model without having to launch the program. In order to avoid inadequate representation of model details, the extra large icon view does not enlarge model thumbnails.

This way of presenting Robot files is supported by all browsers using "icon display".

Danish regional settings updated

Regional settings for Denmark have been updated as follows:
  • Millimeters are used as the basic unit for section dimensions and properties, as well as for the reinforcement areas display.
  • The Eurocode reinforcement bar database has been promoted as the default database.

Eurocode 8 name fixing in the seismic analysis parameters

A minor typo in the Eurocode 8 name was fixed: "Seismic Analysis Parameters (EC8 1998-1:2005)" has been replaced by "Seismic Analysis Parameters (EC 8 (EN 1998-1:2004))".
