Autodesk Nastran Editor

A separate, stand-alone Autodesk Nastran Editor is available as part of the 2015 Product Enhancements release. Use this editor as another way to setup and run Nastran simulations.

Location of the Autodesk Nastran Editor Shortcut:

From the Windows® Start Menu, go to All Programs Autodesk Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2015 Autodesk Nastran Editor Autodesk Nastran Editor.

The documentation for this editor is not included within the Simulation Mechanical online help. It is separately documented and is included with the program installation as a PDF file.

To Access the Autodesk Nastran Editor Documentation:

If you encounter a problem running a Nastran-supported design scenario within Simulation Mechanical, you can try the following alternative solution path:

  1. Export the model to a Nastran file format (click Application Menu Export Third-Party FEA. 1
    • Choose NASTRAN (*.nas; *.bdf; *.dat) from the Save as type drop-down box.
    • Navigate to the folder where you want to place the exported model.
    • Specify a filename for the exported model. Regardless of the specified file extension (*.nas, *.bdf, or *.dat), the output file format is the same.
    • Click Save.
  2. Start the Autodesk Nastran Editor (All Programs Autodesk Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2015 Autodesk Nastran Editor Autodesk Nastran Editor).
  3. Open your exported Nastran model in the Autodesk Nastran Editor. 2
  4. Verify the model setup and make any setup changes or additions that you wish to. 2
  5. Run the Nastran analysis from within the Autodesk Nastran Editor. 2
