Activation

When the worker-server gets its first authorization. Activating a new worker-server automatically deactivates a previous worker-server.

Authorization

Connects to the license service. The Session Counter connects automatically. There are three possible results:
  1. Successful authorization: Collects the Session Quota from the license service and resets the authorization lifetime.
  2. Termination: When the license service returns zero for the Session Quota. This return is due to the expiration of the subscription or deactivation of the worker-server, due to the activation of a new worker-server. After termination, new Intent sessions cannot be started.
  3. Failed authorization attempt: For any reason, tried, and failed to get the Session Quota from the license service. Failed authorization attempts, within the valid authorization lifetime, have no impact on the operation of the system. Intent sessions are licensed and the current authorization lifetime continues to run (with no extension).

Authorization lifetime

How long the authorization is good for. A lifetime is fixed at 14 days and limited by your subscription expiration date. A connection of the worker-server to the Internet is not required during the authorization lifetime. The best practice is to reauthorize daily to ensure that the maximum authorization lifetime is available.

Contract

When you purchase subscriptions from Autodesk, they are grouped in a contract.

Special stacking behavior for ETO Server: All ETO Server subscriptions under a single contract are stacked to allow you to run all those sessions together. Use separate contracts to split the total authorized sessions into smaller groups.

Contract Admin

The Contract Admin (at your company) is authorized to assign entitlements to individual users.

Entitlement

The purchase of a subscription that is used for administration purposes.

ETO Admin

The ETO Admin is the admin the ETO Server entitlement is assigned to. When enabling 20, 30, or more sessions, one entitlement should be assigned. All other entitlements should not be assigned.

Expiration Date

The ETO Server software subscription stops functioning after its expiration date.

License Service

An Autodesk Web service that authorizes the worker-server. Occasional access to the Internet is required to communicate with the License Service and receive authorization.

Session

A Windows process, or pair of processes, that runs Autodesk ETO software and executes the Intent code.

Sessions include:

  • The batch processor.
  • Sessions of the batch processor run by the order processor.
  • An ETO Server session started with IIntentServices.SetApplication.
  • A custom executable file that uses Intent.

There is no limit to the duration of a session. While a session is running, it uses up one of the available licenses.

Exception: Two processes share one license by using IIntentServices.SetUserApplication. The two processes belong to the same user session.

Session Counter

A Windows service that runs on the worker-server. This service serves as the local proxy for the Autodesk License Service. It allows the worker-server to be disconnected from the Internet during the Authorization Lifetime. The Session Counter must be running for any sessions to start and provides licenses to the sessions. The Session Counter is installed and starts automatically.

Session Quota

The maximum number of concurrent sessions you are allowed to run, depending on your entitlements. Other names: Max sessions or Authorized sessions.

Subscription

Entitlement to use Autodesk software for a certain period. Multiple subscriptions to ETO Server are available for purchase. Each subscription entitles you to run up to 10 simultaneous sessions of ETO.

Worker-server

The computer the sessions are running on.
