The element deletion feature gives you another way to control the progression of failure in both unidirectional and woven composites. By using the HIN file, we can control the criterion by which elements are removed from the analysis.
In this tutorial we'll look at the failure of a large-notch coupon loaded in tension. We'll examine the differences in the solution that result from the different element deletion criteria for unidirectional materials. We will also look at a biaxial cruciform specimen and explore the element deletion criteria available for woven composite materials.
Elementary modeling details are omitted in this tutorial. It is assumed you have previous experience in the Abaqus/CAE environment. Please refer to the Abaqus documentation before completing this tutorial if you are unfamiliar with Abaqus/CAE.
