If you plan to search folders on several different network computers, Autodesk Content Service must be installed on each of those network computers. The folders to be searched must be public, and they must be added to the watched folder list for indexing. Any computer running an Autodesk program with Content Explorer can access the network computers running Autodesk Content Service for real-time search results.
Autodesk Content Service can be used in one of two ways.
With your Autodesk Program: Whenever an Autodesk program that includes Content Service is installed, Autodesk Content Service runs on the local system as a personal service. This means that you are going to be using your Autodesk program to access design files and manage watched folders. You can share folders on your computer and index them with Autodesk Content Service. When you do this, other Content Explorer users on your network can search these folders.
As a standalone service: You might want to add watched folders on a network computer without installing a full Autodesk Product on that computer. In this case, install Autodesk Content Service on the network computer. Watched folders can then be managed with the Autodesk Content Service Configuration Console. Content Explorer users on the network will be able to search them and access them.
