You can install most Autodesk products for a trial period of 30 days. If you purchase a license, it is configured as either stand-alone or network, and for a specific number of users.
- Stand-alone license. For use by one person. The licensed products can be installed on two computers, as long as both instances are not running concurrently. (Trial software and student software use the stand-alone license.)
- Multi-seat stand-alone license. Supports a specific number of users. You can install the software on additional computers in your facility, but the number of concurrent users is limited. Small groups and some educational institutions use this license.
- Network license. Supports a specific number of users on computers connected to a network. The Network License Manager is installed on one or more servers on the network to manage the distribution of licenses to users. Large groups and some educational institutions use this license.
- User license. Lets you run your product as a trial or subscription. With a user license, you log in with your Autodesk ID to start the product. (Not available for all products.)
For more information on multi-seat and network licenses, follow the link to "About Network License Management" at the bottom of this page.
Depending on what you purchase, licenses may have other variations. For example, a license can be commercial, for students, or for educational institutions. It can also be permanent (a perpetual license) or valid for a term specified in a contract (a desktop subscription license).
Transferring Licenses
Autodesk custom installations provide a license transfer utility, for use with stand-alone licenses only. You might use it in the following circumstances:
- You might need to transfer your license if you have a new computer.
- Depending on your license agreement, you might be able to transfer a stand-alone license from one computer to another, either temporarily or permanently. For example, you might want to run products on a portable computer while traveling.
- You might need to preserve a license before maintenance that affects the host computer's identity. Examples include changing the hardware, reinstalling the operating system, or reimaging the computer.
- If a license error occurs, you may have to reactivate your product. Follow the instructions in the Product Activation wizard that appears when you try to run the product.
Uninstalling Products with Stand-Alone Licenses
If you have a stand-alone license and you uninstall your product and then reinstall your product on the same computer, your license remains valid. You don't have to reactivate it.
