Redefining Landing Surfaces

The landing surface is usually defined when an asset is authored. The component is oriented so the landing surface is positioned against the floor. In cases where an asset has not been authored (such as inserting an external model into a factory layout), you can use the Set Landing Surface command to define a landing surface so the model snaps to the floor or other surface. Also, some assets and external models can be placed in more than one orientation. Although the primary orientation is defined, you may wish to rotate it for certain applications.

The assigned orientation for standard, custom, or external content can be redefined at any time.

  1. Click Set Landing Surface in the Relationships pane on the Factory Tab. The pointer changes to indicate you can make a selection.
  2. Select a plane or planar face on the component. The component rotates so that the face is flush with the floor.

Only the component you select has the new orientation. The command remains active so you can change the landing surface on other components.

  3. Right-click and select Done from the pop-up context menu to complete the operation, or select Cancel to exit the command without redefining the landing surface.
Note: A redefined landing surface affects only the selected component. It does not modify the pre-assigned landing surface of the component in the system content or other instances of the same component in the factory layout.
