Insert Inventor Part and Inventor Assembly files
Two Inventor file types can be inserted into an Inventor Publisher document. The Inventor model is inserted with its active camera in the document. The current Inventor version and two older versions are supported in Inventor Publisher.
- Inventor Part (.ipt) - Inserting an Inventor part file is a straight forward operation. The inserted file has the camera that it was saved in Inventor. Sheet metal part files are supported in Inventor Publisher.
- Inventor Assembly (.iam) - Selecting an assembly file enables an option command where an Inventor project (.ipj) can be specified. An Inventor project file is important for Inventor Publisher to find all the reference files associated with the assembly file. Weldment assembly files are supported in Inventor Publisher.

Insert Options
Selecting an Inventor part or assembly file enables the Options button. There are three settings that can be configured in this options dialog.
Project File
Browse and select an Inventor project file to find all the references of an Inventor assembly to be inserted in to Inventor publisher. If references are missing an Inventor assembly file cannot be inserted into Publisher.
Import BOM View Type
The BOM type option is available only for Inventor assemblies and not for parts. Select between structured bill of material or parts only bill of material to be imported.
- Parts only BOM (Default) - All parts of the main assembly are listed and no sub assembly structure exists in the BOM.
- Structured BOM - Sub assembly structure is maintained in the BOM.
- Structured All Level - Sub assembly and all its components are included in the BOM.
- Structured First Level - Components under the sub assembly are not listed in the BOM. Only the first level sub assembly is listed.
Note: Once an assembly is inserted with a particular bill of material type it cannot be changed with in Publisher. The assembly will need to be re-inserted to change the BOM type.
Faceting
Faceting controls the edge tessellation display in Publisher. Smaller faceting values results in smoother edges but result in a large file size. Large faceting value results in coarse edges but smaller file size. The default for an Inventor file is the value that is set in Inventor. Select faceting value from a drop-down list or enter a custom value.
Note: Faceting control is available for any supported file that can be inserted in to Inventor Publisher.
Insert Inventor data with an active non-master Level of Detail (LOD)
An Inventor assembly with an active non-master level of detail can be inserted in to a Publisher document.
Level of Detail options:
- Import active LOD and master BOM - Imports the active LOD but bill of material is from the master LOD. Selecting the structured BOM or parts only BOM is controlled at the options.
- Import active LOD and no BOM - Imports the active LOD and no bill of material is imported.
- Import Master LOD - Imports master LOD irrespective of active LOD.
