Saving the log on Linux

Autodesk Support may ask for a log file to help to troubleshoot problems. The system log (syslog) file is a plain text file and can be copied with cp or filtered with grep.

Note: Logs may contain identifying information such as user names, directory paths and model names.

Example: Configuring a special syslog file for Moldflow event logging

This worked example for a Red Hat Enterprise 6 system collects all Moldflow logs in their own file /var/log/moldflow. This distribution of Linux uses the rsyslog daemon, which is configured through the /etc/rsyslog.conf file.

Tip: If you are already using LOCAL4 for another program, you can use LOCAL0 through LOCAL7 instead.
  1. As root, edit the file /etc/rsyslog.conf and add a line at the end:
    local4.* /var/log/moldflow

  2. As root, restart the syslog facility:
    # service rsyslog restart
  3. Configure the Moldflow Job Manager to use the LOCAL4 facility:
    # /opt/Autodesk/moldflow/ami2016/sbin/reconfigure MFSYN_LOG_FACILITY=LOCAL4
  4. Restart the Job Manager:
    # /etc/init.d/ami2016jm restart
