After supporting, for several years, two workflows for preparing an overmolding analysis, the historical workflow has been obsoleted in this release.
In past releases, it has been possible to prepare an overmolding analysis using the tetrahedral element type Overmolding second component (3D) for the part, and Hot runner for overmolding second component (3D) for hot runners. As was indicated would happen in the 2015 What's new, this workflow has been obsoleted in this 2016 release. Starting with this release, the workflow is to assign 1st shot or 2nd shot to the relevant model elements, on the Overmolding Component tab of the relevant property dialog.
If you import a .sdy file containing legacy elements of this type, you will receive a warning message indicating that your model includes these obsoleted legacy elements and providing you with the option to have them updated, automatically, to the supported element type. If you choose not to update the element types automatically, you can update them manually later. It is important that you do eventually update these legacy elements, because the analysis will not run until you do. If you try to run the analysis without updating the legacy elements, the solvers will return an error message and stop.
