Bifrost Options

The Bifrost Options window controls how the Bifröst Computation Server works. To display the window, select Bifrost > Bifrost Options.

Processing Options

Enable Background Processing
Sends the requested frames to the Bifröst Computation Server in a queue to be processed in the background. This allows you to use Maya interactively while the frames are still being computed and cached.

When this option is off, the requested frames are sent one at a time and you must wait for them all to be processed before you can interact in Maya.

Note: Background processing is automatically disabled in batch mode.
Verbose Output
Logs frames and their timestamps in the Script Editor's history pane during evaluation.

Scratch Cache Management

Enable Scratch Caching
Turns the Scratch Cache option on or off for all Bifröst simulations nodes in the scene, and in addition determines the default behavior for new simulations. Scratch Cache keeps frames in memory for faster playback and scrubbing, and can also be set individually for each bifrostLiquidContainer node.
Note: The scratch cache cannot be turned off when Enable Background Processing is on.
Maximum RAM Usage (GB)
The maximum portion of the scratch cache to be kept in memory for display and playback. Excess portions of the scratch cache get offloaded to disk, either to a default location or to the specified location. The default location is the TEMP directory on your system.
Override Disk Location
Defines a custom path for the scratch cache. To ensure fast playback, always use a local drive for the scratch cache.
