Check Satellite operation on Windows computers

Verify that the Ray Sat server is running.

Once mental ray Satellite is installed and running on a slave Windows computer, the Ray Sat server (service name:mental ray Satellite 3.13.1 for Maya 2016) waits for rendering tasks sent by mental ray for Maya on the master computer. The Satellite version of mental ray does not require its own licensing; it is activated through the Maya licensing.

To verify that Ray Sat server is running on a Windows computer

Open a Windows command prompt.
Navigate to the bin directory in the mental ray Satellite directory.
By default the path is C:\Program Files\Autodesk\mrsat3.13.1-maya2016\bin\.
Type the following:
```
raysat2016server
/query
```
A message should be returned that the RaySat2016 Server service is running.

If you do not get this message, make sure that RaySat2016 Server has been installed as a service, and start it from the Services Control Panel (Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Options > Services) or type the following:

raysat2016server
/start
```
