To open the Reference Editor
The Reference Editor lets you manage the file and proxy references in your scene.
You can also manage and edit file and proxy references using the Outliner.
The following table provides a brief overview of task using the Reference Editor.
To... | Do this |

Create a file reference. | Select File > Create Reference. See Creating file references. |
Unload a reference. | Select the reference you want to unload, and then select Reference > Unload Reference. See Load and unload file references. |
Reload a previously loaded reference. | Select Reference > Reload Reference. See Load and unload file references. |
Lock or unlock a reference | Select the reference you want to lock or unlock, and then select Reference > Lock Reference or Reference > Unlock Reference. See Locking a file reference. |
Replace a reference with a proxy reference. |

Remove a proxy reference. | Select the proxy reference you want to remove, and then select Proxy > Remove Proxy. |
Duplicate a reference | Select the reference you want to duplicate, and then select Reference > Duplicate Reference. See Duplicate file references. |
Remove a reference | Select the reference you want to remove, and then select Reference > Remove Reference |
Save reference edits | Select the reference that has reference edits you want to save, and then select File > Save Reference Edits. See Reference edits. |
Export changes made to a reference in your scene to an edits file. You can then assign these edits to another referenced object. |
