Export creases to an Alembic file

Follow these steps to save your meshes' crease information to an Alembic file when using Maya 2015, Maya 2014, or Maya 2013.

Note: In Maya 2015 Extension and later, turn on Write Creases in the Alembic Export window to export creases. To open this window, select Cache > Alembic Cache > Export All/Selection to Alembic > . For more information, see Alembic Export Options.

To export mesh creases to an Alembic file

  1. Select the transform node of the mesh that you want to export an Alembic file.
  2. Add the Sub Division Mesh attribute to the mesh's shape node by doing the following:
    • In the Attribute Editor, select Attributes > Add Attributes.
    • In the Add Attribute window, under New, type SubDivisionMesh beside Long name.
    • Under Data Type, select Boolean.
    • Click OK.
    • Maya adds a Sub Division Mesh attribute to the node's Extra Attributes section.

  3. In the Extra Attributes section, turn on Sub Division Mesh.
  4. In the Animation menu set, selectCache > Alembic Cache > Export All/Selection to Alembic > .
  5. In the Alembic Export window, expand the Attributes section.

    Under Attribute, select SubDivisionMesh, and then click Add.

  6. Click Export Selection or Apply.
  7. When you export your geometry to an Alembic cache, the object's crease information will be included in the Alembic file.
