You can export scene elements including cameras to an Adobe® After Effects® compatible JSON script by selecting
. This command exports any compatible objects in the MayaToAE selection set.
To export elements to a JSON script
- Select the scene objects to export.
- Select
.
The objects are added to a new selection set.
Note: You can middle drag additional objects into the MayaToAE selection set at any time.
- Select
.
The
File Browser opens.
- Type a file name and choose a location for the file. Click Save.
All compatible scene elements are exported.
Compatible elements include:
- Cameras
- Spot, Point, and Ambient Lights
- Groups (converted to Nulls)
- Locators (converted to Nulls)
- Meshes (converted to Solids)
And the data exported includes:
- Position
- Rotation
- Scale
- Intensity, Cone Angle, and Color (for lights)
Any non-compatible scene elements in the
MayaToAE selection set are ignored on export.
Note: If you add the prefix word "text" to a Locator or Group node, it is converted to a text layer in After Effects. For example, renaming "Locator" to "textLocator".
To import a JSON script into After Effects®
- Go to the
plugins/MASH folder of your install directory and unzip the
After Effects.zip folder.
- Follow the instructions in the Readme to install the Maya Import script to After Effects®.
- In After Effects®, select

- Click
Import and use the
File Browser to load the appropriate .json file.
