Fiber orientation tensor result

The Fiber orientation tensor result shows the degree of orientation of fibers at the end of the molding process.

This result is available for parts that have been modeled using either the Dual Domain or 3D technologies that use a material that is fiber filled. An analysis sequence that includes Fill and Pack is also required.

Using this result

This result shows the probability of fiber alignment in the specified principle direction. A high probability is indicated by by a value close to 1 on the results scale, whereas a low probability is indicated by a value close to 0. In most cases the principle direction is close to the direction of material flow, but it may not always coincide with the flow direction.

Things to look for

  • The Fiber orientation tensor result provides the final results of fiber orientation, at the end of the analysis. The strength of the final product will be impacted by the fiber orientation in critical areas of the part. Ensure fiber alignment is optimized. Changing gate locations might be required to obtain a better fiber orientation.
  • Inconsistent alignment of fibers should also be considered in light of the functionality of the finished product.
