Use this dialog to specify the settings for the solver parameters related to Fiber orientation prediction in a Fill or Fill+Pack analysis sequence.
To access this dialog, ensure that you have selected an analysis sequence that includes Fill+Pack , click
, if necessary click Next one or more times to navigate to the Fill+Pack Settings page of the Wizard. Select the option Fiber orientation analysis if fiber material, then click Fiber parameters.
Note: All solver parameters have a default value that will be suitable for most analyses.
Note: If the shrinkage model for the selected material is set to CRIMS, and the Use CRIMS option on the CRIMS Shrinkage Model Coefficients dialog is set to the default (
change solver parameters to be consistent with the CRIMS model
), any changes that you make to the solver parameters above will be overwritten in the analysis. If you want to use non-default settings for these solver parameters, either change the Use CRIMS option setting, or select a different shrinkage model.
General settings
Calculate fiber orientation using (Midplane/Dual Domain analysis technologies) Calculate fiber orientation using (3D analysis technology)
|
Specifies the model used by the Fiber analysis solver to calculate fiber orientation. |
Apply fiber inlet condition at
|
Specifies whether the fiber orientation calculation begins at the part gate or at the injection location. - Gate
- This is the default setting. The fiber orientation calculation begins at the gate (entrance to the cavity), even if the model includes a runner system.
- Injection location
- If you select this option, the fiber orientation calculation begins at the injection location. This accounts for the fiber orientation in a runner system, if one exists in the model.
|
Fiber inlet condition
|
Specifies the inlet boundary condition of the fiber orientation state. - Fibers aligned at skin / random at core
- This is the default setting.
- Fibers aligned at skin / transverse at core
- User-supplied inlet orientation
- Select this option if you want to specify the in-plane fiber orientation components through the thickness. Click Edit profile to display the User-supplied inlet orientation dialog.
|
Calculate fiber breakage
|
Specifies whether to include fiber breakage calculation in the fiber orientation analysis, if the selected material is a long fiber-filled material. Note: The default setting is No. If you set this option to Yes, clicking Fiber breakage parameters opens the Fiber breakage parameters dialog to edit options relating to the prediction of fiber breakage.
|
Edge boundary condition
(Thermoset materials only)
|
This option affects the way that fiber alignment is calculated in elements along the edge of the part. - Fibers align along edge
- This is the default option and should be suitable for most simulations. The fiber orientation in elements along part edges will be artificially aligned in the edge direction (at all thicknesses).
Note: If the number of elements in the planar direction is small, then wrong results can be obtained by using this option.
- Fibers follow flow near edge
- If you select this option, the fiber orientation in elements along part edges will align with the material flow direction.

Composite property calculation options
|
Opens the Composite property calculation options dialog to edit options relating to the prediction of the mechanical properties of the composite, that is, fibers plus polymer matrix. |
